Madam, – In reply to Ellen MacCafferty (April 30th), how can one get so riled about something so unremarkable? If the depiction of a beautiful woman or handsome man is used to catch our attention to aid to future success of a product, so be it, that’s marketing. There is nothing distasteful nor sexist about the human form nor using its appeal to stimulate our most basic behavioural trait of attraction.

The advert was probably created to invoke a media hype and to provoke a certain type of person. You now know what Hunky Dory’s are, so the campaign is an obvious success. – Yours, etc,
