Madam, – The announcement by the Financial Regulator regarding Quinn Insurance Limited (QIL) has been met with shock everywhere (Home News, March 31st). I cannot claim any deep knowledge of the financial sector but I know the esteem in which Seán Quinn is held in this particular part of the island. His business acumen and his commitment to the local community is second to none.
I personally have a sister, a daughter, a son and a sister-in-law employed within QIL as well as many friends. They work hard and they are rewarded with secure futures in a very insecure world.
If Mr Quinn says the group is well able to meet its commitments without the interference of the regulator then I believe him. Not because a wealthy man simply says so, but because a man with 35 years of a unblemished business record, a man with integrity and a man who has given my family, friends and entire communities around Ireland and beyond a quality of life no politician or banker could ever have done. – Yours, etc,
