Controversy over Quinn move

Madam, – The prospect of Anglo bailing out Quinn, is like asking the taxpayer to jump from the frying pan into the fire

Madam, – The prospect of Anglo bailing out Quinn, is like asking the taxpayer to jump from the frying pan into the fire. Adding Greece to the mix, might result in getting more than our fingers burnt this time! – Yours, etc,

Madam, – I note Seán Quinn’s assertion on the RTÉ Prime Time programme that his company has plenty of money in the bank. Has this man got a sense of humour or what? – Yours, etc,

JOHN KANE,

Old Cratloe Road, Limerick.

Madam, – A small but extremely relevant point regarding the wider Quinn group. Many businesses in construction and related companies are suffering because of the recession, Banks are refusing point blank to help. It is a well-known fact within the trade that the Quinn Group has relaxed its credit terms in order to assist these businesses in weathering the economic storm. Cynics and critics take note. – Yours, etc,

DONAL CARLIN,

Ballyconnell, Co Cavan.

Madam, – Seán Quinn was quite entitled to bet the house, the farm and every penny he could borrow on his disastrous CFDs for Anglo Irish Bank. He is quite entitled to be a bad loser. He is entitled to call in every favour he is owed by every organisation he ever impressed to make his point. I suppose he is even entitled to frighten the people who work for Quinn Insurance into going out to say that he is their only hope. What he is not entitled to is to be rescued by the taxpayer via Anglo Irish Bank using €700 million of our hard-borrowed cash.

Would somebody involved (preferably Brian Cowen) please get a grip on reality? – Yours, etc,

JOHN GREGAN,

Enniscorthy, Co Wexford.

Madam, – While I agree with the Rev Norman E Gamble’s opinion of the Quinn group’s current predicament (April 9th), I was somewhat shaken at his apparent lack of Christianity towards those staff members who took to the Cavan streets recently in protest. I have no doubt that those employees are genuine souls who carry a heavy burden as they stare into a possible abyss. Perhaps Dr Gamble will remember them in his prayers. – Yours, etc,

NORMAN LOWTHER,

Maywood Avenue,
