Cork’s small problem

Sir, – Allow me to compliment Frank McDonald on his excellent article on the expansion of Cork city ("Cork's small problem – the real issue for the real capital is its size", Opinion & Analysis, April 7th). As a proud Corkonian, I cringe when I hear people refer to Cork as the "real capital". Dublin is the capital, and Cork is at best a large provincial town. He notes the blather about Cork written by nostalgic Cork people living in Dublin. The Dubs have the capital city, and a great city it is to visit. We have our wonderful coastline, which Dubs equally love to visit. Let's leave it at that. – Yours, etc,

MICHAEL COUGHLAN,
