A chara, – Tim Ryan’s suggestion (October 10th) that there is a “danger” that the people of Cork “might be tempted to break free and form an independent republic” fails to grasp what being “from Cork” means. Being a citizen of the People’s Republic of Cork is not dependent on possession of a passport any more than it is dependent on the opinions of people who are not from Cork. If you are born in the Rebel County, it is part of who you are, an intrinsic state of mind. Despite the fact that I have not lived in Cork since 1967, I am, and always will be, a Corkman. – Is mise,
