Sir, – Water and property charges are as nothing compared to the excessive motor tax and insurance premiums on pre-2008 cars. This is discrimination on those who, for reasons financial or otherwise, drive older yet perfectly serviceable cars, thanks to our stringent yearly testing. I hope this blatant penalising will be addressed by our “reformed Dáil”, that is if our elected representatives can remember owning an older vehicle that gets them from A to B.
A car is essential in rural areas that have no regular bus service, which of course applies to most of Ireland outside of Dublin. – Yours, etc,
