Sir, – I recently purchased 10 free-range eggs at a supermarket. Each and everyone contained a double yolk. Can a poultry farmer, a mathematician, or indeed a bookmaker tell me the odds of that? And if one had a mind to count one’s chickens before they hatched (assuming the layer/layers had access to her male counterpart), would I have been the happy owner of 20 chicks? – Yours, etc,
