Courtesy on roads and footpaths

Sir, – As a pedestrian who has been hit several times by cyclists travelling on footpaths, I can assure your readers that the time lost and the cost of A&E charges and several treatment by physiotherapists is more of a concern for me than the speed of the offenders. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – D Boyle's (July 21st) outrage at cyclists travelling at speeds of 40 miles per hour might be assuaged somewhat by my experience.

Cycling at my usual pace, I was assailed by a whey-faced individual hanging out a car window shrieking “Pedal faster, you bollocks”.

Every road user, be they cyclist, pedestrian or motorist, has their own story to relate. Let’s not get too outraged at the behaviour of certain individuals, as life is too short for recycled angst! – Yours, etc,
