Madam, - I was surprised to read that Simon Coveney MEP had decided to renege on his commitment to the people of the Euro South constituency who gave him a mandate to represent their interests in Europe.
Speaking immediately after the European elections in 2004, Mr Coveney said he would complete a full term as an MEP and was unlikely to contest the next general election. He even hinted that he might resign his Cork South Central Seat before then.
Mr Coveney has failed to live up to his commitment and he has trivialised the importance that the European Parliament plays in our lives.- Yours, etc,
MICHAEL PRENDEVILLE,
