A Chara, - I applaud your decision to publish the distressing photo of the student shot dead by the military in Burma ( The Irish Times, September 29th). Like his compatriots, he felt that freedom just might be within reach if the people took a stand. Bravely he took that stand, and paid with his young, innocent life.
In heart-rending clarity, your photo showed his hopes and dreams
spilling away. And it illustrated - yet again - the appalling cost
of a dysfunctional international community which provides massive
military intervention where it should remain silent, and nothing
but evasive words when robust measures could save lives. - Is mise,
