Sir, - Gerry Adams (Opinion, July 30th) writes that during the Castle Buildings discussions in June, Sinn Fein "took a further initiative in an attempt to overcome the impasse" (decommissioning). The initiative was described by the two governments, he says, as a "seismic shift", and was "rejected repeatedly by the UUP".
Mr Adams does everyone and the peace process itself a disservice by failing to inform us exactly what the seismic shift by his party was. As far as I am aware no one from Sinn Fein has as yet elaborated publicly on the details of its initiative.
Perhaps Mr Adams might like to use the columns of the press to do so and therefore enable us all to judge its earth-moving potential. - Yours, etc., Colin McAuley,
Carrickfergus, Co Antrim.
