Sir, – The winning of a senior All-Ireland is to GAA players and fans the holy grail, the crowning of a player’s career, the dream of a lifetime for some counties, of generations for others.
The present Dublin football team is clearly an exceptional one and their having home advantage in key matches is clearly unfair to their opponents. Four of their recent All-Irelands were decided by a single point and when Mayo drew with them in 2016 Dublin had home advantage once again in the replay.
Financial considerations should not cause the years of effort and sacrifice of a deserving team to end in failure.
At the very least, a drawn final involving Dublin should not be replayed in any Dublin county ground. – Yours, etc,
DENIS
