Sir, – Congratulations to both teams on for an exhilarating, entertaining afternoon last Sunday.Pity the Banner didn’t win. So it has been decided to have the replay at 5pm on September 28th to ease traffic and congestion.
Congestion! As I came out from the Hogan Stand last Sunday to turn left into town I was swallowed up in a sea of humanity. Coming against us were those who had exited from another stand. We were going left they were going right while the guy on the loudspeaker told us to “walk quickly and it will ease in a short while”. Walk quickly? I had no control over that, as I had become the Siamese twin of a 20-stone Cork supporter who dictated where I went, at a snail’s pace, I was that close to him. I had to keep my hands above my head in case I accidentally put my hand into his pocket to check if my mobile phone was still there. He glared at my Clare cap as I counted the hairs in his nostrils. It would be funny if it wasn’t so dangerous.
I would hate to have been a parent with a young child in that frightening situation – or an elderly person who tripped or got unwell. I appeal to those in charge to do something about this extremely hazardous arrangement before the football final and hurling replay, or an unfortunate accident will happen. – Yours, etc,
JOHN HURLEY,
