Sir, – Terry Connaughton (Letters, October 27th) points out a "glaring omission" from my book – a statue located in Ranelagh Gardens.
He is correct, the wonderful little statue of Richard Crosbie was not included and this is because it was outside the frame of reference. The back cover clearly states that the book refers to works “within the Grand and Royal Canals” and so does not include suburbs such as Rathmines, Ringsend or Ranelagh where there are many other sculptures.
The book does however include other “hidden treasures” of the people of Dublin such as the statue of Liberty by Edward Smyth (1785) in Westmoreland Street and the Ten Virgins by Sir John Steell (1863) in O’Connell Street. – Yours, etc,
NEAL DOHERTY,
