Cross-Border co-operation

Sir, – Thanks to Denzil McDaniel for reminding us that the important work of cross-Border and North-South co-operation continues despite all the crises caused by Covid and Brexit ("Cross-Border co-operation is shaping a new future", Opinion & Analysis, January 10th). It is a pity that he did not give more credit to the visionary and hard-working organisations which have led this work since the 1990s: organisations like the all-island Institute of Public Health in Ireland and the border region Cooperation and Working Together in health; the Armagh-based Centre for Cross Border Studies and the Standing Conference on Teacher Education North and South in education; the International Centre for Local and Regional Development in planning; and the East Border Region group, Irish Central Border Area Network and Dublin-Belfast Economic Corridor group of eight local councils (along with Dublin City University and the University of Ulster) in local economic development. – Yours, etc,

ANDY POLLAK,

Dublin 6.
