Madam, - I am puzzled by the reckless and provocative remarks of the director of the Yeats International Summer School, Prof Patrick Crotty, as reported in your edition of August 9th, particularly his bizarre allusion to sectarianism.
Prof Kiberd's critical work is distinguished by its integrity, and is absent of the kind of loose interpretation that is here brought to bear against it. A careful, sensitive analysis of his work would elicit a more exact and true reading than this sort of crude insinuation. - Yours, etc,
