Sir, – As a long-retired member of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors in the Republic of Ireland, who was actively involved in the inception of the institute in 1969 and 1970, I am very disappointed at the recently announced cutbacks in schools.
In those early years we fought long and hard for official recognition of the role of guidance counselling in our secondary schools, all, as it would now appear, to no avail. – Yours, etc,
