Cyclists and lights

Sir, – There seems to be an increasing trend toward brighter and brighter lights on bicycles.

Strobing lamps with lumen values to rival Croke Park floodlights are as dangerous as undipped car headlights. While strict regulations exist to ensure motor vehicles do not dazzle other road users, no such encumbrances prevent cyclists indulging a passion for fulgent excess.

Might I appeal to cyclists to exercise restraint? – Yours, etc,
