Sir, - I wonder that you still give space on your pages to nonsencycle self-appointed spokespersons pedalling their rubbish about cycle lanes. At least, I'm glad that the Government and the councils are for the most part ignoring them. That's the thing, ignore them and they'll soon run out of puff. Don't mind about promises. These were made only in the heat of election campaigns and everyone knows they're not binding.

Yes! Force them to get cars like the rest of us! If the councils give in on this one, picture the scene. Cyclists, old and young, will be whizzing along, the picture of health, on their special lanes, giving the two fingers to us, trapped in our jams. It makes me fume. What about the motorists, what rights do we have? All that is left to us is to clog up the roads and insist on our ancient and inalienable rights.

If we're to die of pollution, let's all go together, is all I can say. Yes, spend billions on new roads and save on the cycle paths.

Far too much has already been spoken and written about global warming. It's the cyclists we have to worry about. Let's turn up the heat on them. - Yours, etc.,
