Sir, - It may interest Peter Ingle (November 13th) to know that I do not drive a car, nor have I ever done. I do, however, drive a two-wheeled vehicle of the self-propelled variety, and (also being relegated to the gap between traffic and the side of the road) I can view the spectacularly stupid things cyclists do to endanger themselves and others every day. Barely a morning goes by that I don't see a cyclist doing his damnedest to pedal furiously up the inside of a car that is obviously turning left (and has been indicating this intention for the past 30 yards).
I appreciate that cyclists are more vulnerable than the average road user, but their general behaviour does not endear them to either pedestrians or motorists. Also, having plied the canal-side route twice a day for quite some time now, I can say without compunction that there are more bad cyclists out there than there are bad drivers. - Yours, etc.,
Eimear Coffey, Hillsbrook Avenue, Perrystown, Dublin 12.
