Sir, - In his interesting article on the Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis (Arts, September 3rd), Patrick Comerford states that the 1958 ballet Antigone was commissioned by the Royal Ballet for Margot Fonteyn. This is not correct, as Dame Margot never danced the role.
The Royal Ballet commissioned the ballet for the choreographer John Cranko, who created the title role for Svetlana Beriosova as his wedding present to her. The sets and costumes were designed by the Mexican artist Arturo Tamayo.
The only other dancer to perform the role was Anya Linden (now Lady Sainsbury). - Yours, etc.,
