DANGEROUS DRIVING

Madam, - Having done some extensive driving from Dublin to the south of the country in the past few days, I simply cannot believe the behaviour of some of the drivers on our roads. For these people, it appears, bad manners, penalty points, and horrific stories of lives lost due to dangerous driving are of no interest. The standards of some people was quite simply shameful.

What is the point in having a system in place if it is so loosely and unfairly imposed? A few months ago, I was stopped on the N4 and given a ticket for going at 10 m.p.h. over the limit in a 40 m.p.h. zone).

I was in the wrong, paid my fine gladly and learnt my lesson. But it enrages me that some drivers on secondary roads behave like lunatics and appear to be getting away with it. In over 500 miles of driving on my last trip, I saw one Garda car parked at the side of the road. - Yours, etc.,
