Sir, – Many of your readers will know that at 4.15am today, thousands of people all over Ireland (and, indeed, all over the world) will have participated in the Darkness into Light 5km walk/run in aid of Pieta House. Pieta House is a non-profit organisation providing treatment for people who have suicidal ideation or who participate in self-harming.
While the event is a very successful fundraising initiative (and it would be nice if our Government matched the funds raised – oh to be an Independent TD) it also has a more important symbolic meaning.
It is a way to tell anyone who is struggling that we are with them and they are not alone.
