Day Of Reconciliation

Sir, - I agree wholeheartedly with both Desmond Wilson and Terence McCaughey (The Irish Times, April 13th)

Sir, - I agree wholeheartedly with both Desmond Wilson and Terence McCaughey (The Irish Times, April 13th). We are not yet ready for an act of reconciliation. There is too much hurt, bitterness and distrust preventing us from coming together in a meaningful ceremony, rather than just a premature token gesture.

But perhaps it would be possible for us to acknowledge our collective past, and the part each of us played in creating the present time, and then to pledge ourselves to help build a better society here, or to support those who are determined to bring this about. Instead of a Day of Reconciliation, let us have a Day of Commitment. Yours, etc.,
