‘Dear Margaret’

Sir, – Publication of the rather ingratiating and obsequious letters from Garret FitzGerald and Charles Haughey to Margaret Thatcher prompts the question of whether FitzGerald and Haughey went beyond their mandate. It was appropriate to negotiate with Thatcher, but lavishing her with personal praise was going a bit too far. I wonder what letters Leo Varadkar sends to today’s world leaders on my behalf? Unfortunately I won’t be alive in 30 years when Mr Varadkar’s letters are published, so immediate publication of what is being said on my behalf would be greatly appreciated. – Yours, etc,

AOIFE LORD,

Tankardstown, Co Meath.
