Madam, - In an otherwise excellent letter, David Marlborough (June 16th) seems to imply Charles Haughey's tax avoidance was in some way OK because current Ministers have squandered many millions. Many people were turned off politics by Mr Haughey's illegality and it cannot be passed over in such a glib way. - Yours, etc,
POL Ó DEORÁIN, Siúlán na Mainistreach, Cluain Dolcáin, Baile Átha Cliath 22.
Madam, - The initial comment following the death of Charles Haughey was measured. Then the political pygmies got going, snapping at the heels of an otherwise distracted colossus.
Rest in peace, Charlie: you did indeed do some service. - Yours, etc,
JIM O'SULLIVAN, Rathedmond, Sligo.
Madam, - In adjuring the vultures to keep their stones in their own pockets, Joan Hickey (June 15th) should realise that since, in this country, everything was swept under the carpet for so long, once it all came home to roost, the mud was bound to stick. - Yours, etc,
MICHAEL WALSH, Bellevue Road, Glenageary, Co Dublin.
