Madam, - As a teacher I had the good fortune to work under the guidance of Fr Denis Faul in the Irish College in Teelin, Co Donegal. What a joy! He was "Gaelach" in the truest sense of the word. He had sheer dedication without fanaticism. This trait seemed to apply whichever hat he donned in life.
Last Friday week I attended his funeral. The grief on the streets of Carrickmore was truly palpable. I couldn't help thinking of that Good Friday funeral 2,000 years earlier, such was the void I sensed.
Tírgráthóir cróga calma a labhair amach go borb in aghaidh an fhoréigin le linn na dtrioblóidí - b'shin é an tAthair Faul. Ina theannta sin, sagart caoin séimh den scoth - uiríseal daonna go smior.
Is móide Teaghlach Dé d'anam, a laoich ghil ach is boichte sinn d'éagmais, fágtha mar éach gan srian ag treabhadh an tsaoil. Tháinig an nóin bheag agus deireadh an lae ort go tobann, a chara cléibh. "Oíche mhaith agus codladh sámh" - siúd chugat na focla scoir a chloisimis uait féin a Athair ródhíl sa Choláiste i dTeileann, oícheanta aoibhne aeracha ár n-óige,
- Is mise,
MOLLIE DEENEY O'HEGARTY, Stranorlar, Co Donegal.
