Sir, - I drove from Dublin to Kerry on December 26th and returned on January 6th. I tried to keep to the speed limits on the various road categories. I was passed out literally by hundreds of cars and vans varying from Beamers to bangers, Minis to Mercs, at speeds grossly in excess of the limits.

Alas, no speed traps, no Garda presence. The Government pays lip-service to road safety and the increasing death toll.

Also, in the style of the the health warning on cigarette packets, motorists should be advised: "Drive on the Kerry roads and wreck your car". - Yours, etc.,
