Sir, - While I acknowledge the serious consequences of a foot-and-mouth outbreak, I fail to understand why the Government is not devoting similar human and financial resources to halt a much greater tragedy in our midst. At the time of writing, 87 people, young and old, have been slaughtered on our roads in only 11 weeks. Yet hardly a whisper is heard.

Surely saving human life is far more important than preventing the spread of a non-life-threatening virus. - Yours, etc.,
