Sir, - Esther Steele's letter (June 28th) resounded with understanding and humanity. I too have witnessed the literature and poster campaigns of the so-called pro-life movement (is everyone else anti-life?) and have been repelled by their lack of humanity or compassion. Their dogmatic, virulent assertions leave no room for understanding. The fact that their posters are so prominently displayed on major promenades such as O'Connell Street particularly disturbs me. Young children are exposed to a hideous image of a foetus and as young children, they are naturally curious about what they see. This leaves parents and guardians in an awkward position when answering children's questions. To echo Ms Steele's Christian sentiments seems appropriate: "Judge not lest you be judged." Reasoned debate does not need to be so inflammatory and judgmental. The socalled "pro-life" groups would probably gain more support were they not so supercilious and militant. - Yours, etc.,
Sorcha Brett, Tamarac, Florida, USA.
