Sir, - A recent Irishman's Diary in defence of Nora Wall and Pablo McCabe, written by Kevin Myers, was a commendable contribution to a debate on child abuse which, one now suspects, has been characterised by cosy consensus rather than by incisive analysis by the media.
The note of hysteria that has characterised this problematic topic has been punctured by Mr Myers's insightful commentry and challenging appraisal of the central issues raised by this disturbing case. I commend him for taking such a brave stance on such an unpopular issue.
I must say that, on reading his article, I was appalled by the implications of his commentary for justice in Irish courts of law. Few articles, in any newspaper, have stimulated such a radical review of my own personal views as have this one.
I welcome the challenge presented by Mr Myers. This, surely, is what serious journalism is about. - Yours, etc.,
Nora Ni Mhurchu, Weirview Drive, Stillorgan, Co Dublin.
