Madam, - I strongly disagree with Marc Coleman's opinion (Economics, April 27th) that the Irish people should give 8 per cent of their badly needed resources to property owners in order to give a "morale boost to the market" or to be "helpful in a nervous market".

In this world view, the market's needs take precedence over the people's health, quality of life and right to decent public transport. However, it's a pity the Irish people don't seem to have much choice in rejecting this view at the election as all major parties have cowered before the predominantly well-off group of swing voters who have been whipped up into a frenzy by a well-aimed media campaign. - Yours, etc,
