Madam, - As I sat for 40 frustrating minutes the other day in a traffic jam in Macroom, Co Cork, I happened to hear an interview with Minister for Education Batt O'Keeffe, as he attempted to justify the reintroduction of college fees for the so-called better off in society. As we all know, the "better off" are also known as the PAYE sector, or even the lambs to the slaughter.

Oh, by the way, Macroom happens to be in Mr O'Keeffe's constituency. Perhaps if the Minister paid more attention to the dire lack of infrastructure in his own backyard, rather than embarking on a solo run against the PAYE sector, his constituents might be more appreciative come the next election.

- Is mise,

PATRICK BUCKLEY, Rathard, Aherla, Co Cork.
