Defending defined benefit schemes

Sir, – Where have all the members of the legal profession gone? How is it that no lawyer is offering to take on the banks who are telling members of their defined benefit pension schemes: Tough luck; we lost/did not properly provision your scheme and there is nothing to be done.

Has it not occurred to any member of the legal profession that this is being done to take the debt off the balance sheet and that an outstanding legal challenge would prevent them from doing this, perhaps for years, and so they would probably offer to settle? This would give the employees a better pension, and the lawyer a percentage. Surely there are some who made millions at the tribunals looking for something to do? – Yours, etc,
