Defending medics in Bahrain

Sir, – In recent days the Bahraini regime has revealed its true nature once again

Sir, – In recent days the Bahraini regime has revealed its true nature once again. On Friday security forces assaulted Nabeel Rajab, president of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights and Ion Ratiu Democracy Award winner 2011. On Sunday Bahrain deported Dr Richard Sollum, deputy director of Physicians for Human Rights, as he attempted to witness the trial of, among others, Irish-trained surgeons Ali Al Ekri and Bassim Dahif.

The international medical and diplomatic communities continue to demand the dropping of charges against all those abducted and tortured in Bahrain. The regime continues to suppress human rights activities and propagate misinformation and agitprop. In doing so it further convinces the world of its duplicity and malfeasance. – Yours, etc,
