Sir, – I was interested to read Bernard Keogh's comments on the IronMan challenge (August 8th) but I do feel that he completely missed all the benefits Ireland gets by holding it in Dublin.
This is a global event. Holding it here means more interest in Ireland and a bonanza in tourist revenue. This means more jobs and more joy.
My son Alex flew in from Sydney to compete. He was beyond impressed with the arrangements, as were all his fellow athletes. In addition, most of the competitors he spent time with said they couldn’t wait to get back to Ireland to tour, eat and, of course, sample our liquid products. Perfect PR for Ireland.
All in all, closing off the IronMan route for a few hours seems to be to be an absolute plus for everyone. – Yours, etc,
PATRICIA R MOYNIHAN,
