Madam, - Many women have had their anxiety levels raised over the past few days by the news that the Department of Health has requested the cessation of breast care services at Barrington's Hospital, Limerick. Occurrences like this will be reduced if the Minister for Health gets the HSE to implement without any further delay the recommendations contained in the National Quality Assurance Standards for Symptomatic Breast Disease Services, which were launched by the Minister for Health on May 18th.
At that time senior HSE officials promised to produce a plan to implement these standards by the end of July. It is now September and there is no sign of this plan. On behalf of the women of Ireland, can we have this plan now? - Yours, etc,
