Sir, – Enda Kenny is calling in each of his ministers to ask them what they are doing regarding job creation (Home News, January 17th). If his Minister for Justice could sort out the Garda vetting procedure it would remove a major impediment to employment.
While all agree that Garda vetting is necessary, the system devised for its implementation was designed to suit those administering it, not those who avail of it. Stephen Murphy’s experience (January 24th) is not unique: it is taking up to six months at present to get Garda clearance. This is causing frustration and disappointment to hundreds of students who wish to enrol in an area where there are actual job opportunities. – Yours, etc,
