Madam, - Flying out of Dublin Airport is rarely pleasant, but Monday morning's queues were the worst I have ever experienced and I am a very frequent traveller.
It took more than 30 minutes to clear security. No fault attaches to the staff - baggage inspections were carried out briskly, efficiently and with good humour. It is just that our third-world airport cannot cope. The second terminal will bring temporary relief, but if passenger numbers continue to grow it will not take long to revert to the present grim levels of suffering imposed on travellers.
Is it not time to make a second airport for the Dublin/Leinster region an election issue? There is plenty of available land west of Dublin, away from major population centres yet close to the motorway and railway networks.
Kinnegad International Airport may not have a poetic ring to it, but at least passengers might be spared the misery and humiliation that comes with the present Dublin experience. - Yours, etc,
NEIL HOLMAN, Pembroke Road, Dublin 4.
