Sir, – According to A Dictionary of Irish Place Names, by Adrian Room, the meaning of the word Letterkenny or Leitir Ceanainn in Irish is, wet hillside of Uí Chanáin. Unfortunately this appears not to have been noted when building the new A & E wing of the Letterkenny Hospital. In this instance the clue really is in the name. – Yours, etc,
