Sir, – Many people use mnemonics to recall the names of the planets. My favourite was Many Volcanoes Erupt Mulberry Jam Sandwiches Under Normal Pressure.
Accepting that Dame Jocelyn Bell-Burnell and the International Astronomy Union were probably justified in demoting Pluto (Home News, December 13th), they should in common courtesy have provided replacement mnemonics. Perhaps your readers might supply suitable phrases for English or Hiberno-English speakers (the planets should be named in order from Sol outwards). – Yours, etc,
