Madam, - Surely the fuss about the Minister for Education's customised information packs for Fianna Fáil candidates is hypocritical.
Mr Dempsey has made it clear that the finite resources of his Department must be targeted at the disadvantaged, to give them the start in life they would otherwise not enjoy.
These underprivileged Fianna Fáil candidates are trying to get a part-time contract job which, although not permanent and pensionable, may offer the odd foreign trip and could lead to better things (e.g. a seat in the Dáil). The fortunate few could progress to the Euro gravy train.
In educating this group via these special packs and thereby increasing their employment chances, the Minister, at relatively modest cost to the taxpayer, is only doing what he has promised many times - tackling educational inequality. - Yours, etc.,
ENID O'DOWD, Moyne Road, Dublin 6.
