Sir, – With reference to Conor Lally’s article highlighting the dramatic drop in the numbers constituting visiting committees to prisons (Home News, January 2nd), I would hope Minister for Justice Alan Shatter would find it in his powers to rectify the matter immediately.
With the current very precarious numbers left on the visiting committees, the maxim that justice must not only be done but be seen to be done is not being upheld. – Yours, etc,
