Madam, - May I join Daphne Pochin Mould (August 11th) in pleading for the preservation of our hedgerows? I too have noticed recently scarred hedgerows and scarified banks along the roadsides. She also mentions the loss of our wild flowers - of those meadows which could be seen around the country not so terribly long ago.
On a recent holiday around the Baltic, in Estonia in particular, I was struck by the almost forgotten sight of cattle and horses grazing in meadows bright with many coloured wild flowers - not a rank weed to be seen!
Will they be wiser than us and value what they have after they join the EU? - Yours, etc,
