Madam, - I live on the route of the 46A bus, which takes me to St Stephen's Green in the mornings for work. I regularly wait 20 minutes for a bus to arrive, sensing the increasing frustration of my fellow commuters shuffling in the cold. Then, like a mirage in the desert, three 46A buses miraculously appear.
I had resisted the temptation to write to you about the poor service until I attempted to get home on St Stephen's night at 2am. I had read in your paper that "the 24 Nitelink routes will be running seven days a week until January 5th, excluding Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day".
As I walked around Trinity College towards my desired Nitelink, there were no buses to be seen. The ticket booth beside Trinity was unoccupied. Dozens of people were milling around, wondering where the buses were. Unfortunately, none arrived and a long walk ensued.
I had almost resigned myself to the poor service provided in the morning rush-hour, but I had hoped Dublin Bus would deliver on the promised Nitelink service during the busy Christmas period.
- Yours, etc,
SIMON BALL, Foxrock, Dublin 18.
