JEAN TUBRIDY,
Sir, - I am appalled at the events in the gaelscoil at Dunboyne. My main concern lies with the pupils and the fact that they seem to have been factored out of the equation. Surely, if pupils are considered to be old enough to deal with weighty matters such as transubstantiation, their views should be fully and directly taken into account with regard to the dismissal of their principal.
As the parent of a seven- year-old, I know how overwhelming the dismissal of a dedicated principal could be for his or her pupils. Is it not more important for primary school pupils to learn about the ethics of sensitivity, diplomacy and mutual understanding than the finer details of religious doctrine? - Yours, etc.,
JEAN TUBRIDY,
