Sir, - With respect to Mary O'Brien's article of August 6th, "Emotional Response to Photograph", that image of the clothes and shoes of a drowned child on your front page appalled me when I saw it and, having read the article on the subject I am amazed at your newspaper's response to the genuine distress of readers.
There are moments when people are overwhelmed by grief and when the only right thing to do is to allow space for one particular event to be acknowledged - in this case the death of a child. To use such moments for any other purpose - however well intentioned - is a sign of arrogant insensitivity - Yours, etc.,
