Does Ireland want business?

Sir, – Does Ireland want new business? My company has unique technology ready for the market. Phase 1 will create 80-plus jobs and Phase 2 will require a further 220. After eight wasted months with UK bureaucrats we wanted to know if our project qualified for funding and could it be fast-tracked.

On February 5th I wrote to a director of Enterprise Ireland. On the same day my CEO sent the same request to the director’s counterpart in Luxembourg. Since then, Luxembourg invited us to visit and present our case: they have matched us with a state enterprise bank and twinned us with a potential JV partner. They could not have been more positive and forward indications are good.

Meanwhile, we have heard nothing from Enterprise Ireland.

As an Irishman I would have loved to bring this business “home”, but it’s not to be. Ah well! For transparency I am copying this letter to the same Enterprise Ireland director which, no doubt, will provoke an instant response. – Yours, etc,
