Madam, - It is unfortunate that the headline on Paul Cullen's article (Nov 1st) "Trócaire reports donation fall-off of 44%" did not reflect the good news story contained in the article itself.

As was highlighted in the piece, the phenomenon of the 2004 tsunami apart, public donations to Trócaire have continued to rise year on year.

If one removes the distorting effect of the tsunami appeal, the level of public donations Trócaire receives annually has shown an upward trend in the past three years, as the graphic at the bottom of the article displayed.

Despite the ever-increasing demands on the Irish public from charities, the support for all Trócaire's fundraising work, including our Christmas Global Gift and Lenten Campaign, is a tribute to the continued loyalty and generosity of our donors.
