Madam, - One item featured in RTÉ Radio's Playbackprogramme last Saturday scorned the BBC for its censoring of Fairytale of New Yorkby bleeping out certain words. I heard no scorn for RTÉ's own recent qualms about allowing in an advertisement one of the nicest words in the English language. The word "crib" conjures up the image of a child in a cot, which gives offence to nobody.
It all seemed a bit selective to me. Perhaps RTÉ could take the beam from its own eye the better to see the speck in the eye of the BBC. - Yours, etc,
PATRICK REIDY,
Cork.
